5 things to see at this year’s The Handmade Fair

Tapestry Party Bunting

With only a few weeks to go until one of our highlights of the annual sewists’ calendar. The Handmade Fair will return to The Green at at Hampton Court Palace from 16th to 18th September, and we’ll be there to browse the shopping villages, meet some of our sewing heroes and be learn a few new things at the workshops. Here are our top 5 reasons to grab yourself a ticket today.

1. Hole up in the Super Theatre

The Fair will see some of the biggest names in the crafting world come together to give talks and presentations about their work in the Super Theatre. We’ll be planning our visit around the Super Theatre’s programme, featuring everyone from Liz Earle to Lisa Comfort and Cath Kidston.

2. Roll up your sleeves

We’re especially excited about the Skills Workshops programme that runs throughout the Fair’s three days. We’ll be getting our weave on with the tapestry party bunting workshop (pictured above) on the Friday morning with Becky John of My Blooming Day.

3. Get involved with crowd-crafting for a good cause

The Fair’s sponsors DMC are planning a huge crowd-crafting event at the Fair – they’ll be asking crafters everywhere to join them in making a giant pink ribbon to raise money and awareness for breast cancer charity The Pink Ribbon Foundation. This is a really lovely idea so reach for your sewing kit and join in!

4. Hello Patrick!

Our love of the Great British Sewing Bee is well documented, so we’ll be first in the queue for the Super Theatre on Friday afternoon at 3 to see Kirstie Allsop in conversation with Patrick Grant.

5. Save £££ on your ticket

As a special offer for Simply Sewing readers, you can save £3 on the price of your ticket and get a free glass of bubbly when you arrive! To claim this discount, simply enter the ref: SEWING4 when you book at www.thehandmade fair.com and get a Full Experience day ticket for £29.
