Learn to sew The Overture Set

The Overture Set

We’ve been thrilled to work with Cassandra Macindoe of The Stitchery recently. The talented sewist is launching her new pattern label, Storybook Patterns, with her debut pattern The Overture Set, and we’re thrilled to reveal you can get the free sewing pattern with issue 20 of Simply Sewing magazine. This design won us over instantly with its trapeze silhouette and retro vibe, and includes both blouse and dress versions.

If you’re itching to get making your own version of The Overture Set, we’ve got good news! You can learn directly from the designer as Cassandra is running  The Overture Set Workshop next month. The 2-day weekend workshop will take place on 10th and 11th September at The Stitchery studios in Glasgow. It’s a great chance to upgrade your garment construction skills, learn key techniques directly from Cassandra and make something wonderful for your wardrobe, made exactly to fit your own body.

The Overture Set really is one of our all-time-favourite free sewing patterns that we’ve featured in the magazine, and we’re so excited to see it available in shops now, free with issue 20. It’s a light and flowing garment that can be made as either a dress or shirt. Based on a trapeze silouhette, it features a fitted bodice, back pleat, dropped hem and classic collar, with in-seam pockets in the dress.

Storybook Patterns The Overture SetYou can find out more about Cassandra’s design process in issue 20 of Simply Sewing magazine, where she chat to her about what happens behind the scenes of creating a pattern. We’re also thrilled to announce her new column, also starting this issue, in which she’ll be talking us through her quest to create zero-waste patterns, something that we’re really excited about.
