We’re so lucky to have a hobby that fills up every corner of our lives with handmade goodness, from gorgeous frocks to on-trend furnishings and fun makes for the kids. You really can’t beat the satisfaction that comes with being able to say “I made that!”. So we’ve packed issue 30 with projects to sew for a stylish summer, with 3 free gifts! Here’s a peek at the issue… get your copy now in our online store.
This issue’s cover star pattern is a gal with serious twirl power: The Selena Skirt, in UK sizes 6-20 (US 4-18/EUR 34-48). This update on a classic 50s flared skirt features an easy-to-wear midi length, invisible zip fastening, optional waist belt or bow, and a swishy high-low hemline.
Made a Selena? Share it with us using #simplysewingmag – we’d love to see yours!
We’re embracing slow sewing this month with a two-part Florence Dress sewalong with Sew Over It. Florence is a floaty maxi dress designed for lightweight fabrics, with a button-up bodice, neat collar and comfy elastic waist (great for fitting in all those ice creams we’re planning on eating this summer!).
In this issue, we’ll be constructing the bodice and placket and adding the collar – and then sitting back and admiring our handiwork until the next part of the sewalong in issue 31!
We’re adding Liberty loveliness to our wardrobes too, with issue 30’s Betsy Tote pattern by Alice Caroline. The perfect combination of practical and pretty, this jumbo tote is perfect for carrying all the essentials on sunny days out.
Also in issue 30:
- Meet sewists who make their own wedding dress.
- Make a sewing tidy from a fat quarter.
- Learn to sew with lightweight fabrics.
- Sew a pair of plushie puppies.
- Master stitching perfect hems.
- Make a summer wrap dress.
- Stitch chic hallway accessories.
- Sew a hexie cushion from denim scraps.
- Whip up a floaty one-shoulder dress.
