Meet The Great British Sewing Bee finalist Jade Earley

Hooray the final of The Great British Sewing Bee hits our screens tonight, and we’ll be watching to cheer on Joyce, Jade and Charlotte as they grapple to be crowned Queen Bee of the amateur sewing world. We can’t wait until tonight so we’re getting in the mood by meeting the finalists, as part of our Meet the Bees series of interviews with the intrepid contestants from Series 4.

First up, we say hello to 18-year-old Jade, the show’s youngest ever contestant. She’s a hot favourite in tonight’s sew-off after winning garment of the week twice in a row in the run up to the final, with her cropped tweed jacket and figure-hugging yoga wear.  Before she entered the sewing room, Jade caught the sewing bug after an injury meant she had to give up competitive swimming. Her previous creations had included sewing up clothes for her entire family, including a tutu for the family dog!

She’s thrown herself into the challenges every week, managing to keep her cool when her fellow sewists faltered in activewear week and breezing through the puzzling patterns Semi Final. Our favourite Jade quote of the series has to be in lingerie week, when sewing up the Made to Measure robe challenge, ” I think every robe should have a cheeky pocket,” she mused, “You can hide your biscuits in there from your mum when she says you’re not allowed any more.” Today we ask her to tell us more about her love of sewing & share her the secrets of her success.

What are your best tips for sewing success?

My biggest tip would be to be open minded about sewing – never say you can’t achieve because you can.

What’s on your sewing table?

I have a few garments at the moment… a summer dress for my little sister and a summer dress for myself.

What tool or notion couldn’t you live without?

I don’t think I could live without my sewing scissors the I have at the minute – they are the nicest pair I have had and cut so well.

What’s your favourite thing about sewing?

The bit that I enjoy the most is when you see the pattern cut into pieces and you just cannot imagine what the final outcome will look like, but then you see it and you go “wow I made that”

Complete the sentence: Every sewer can relate to…

A good surgeon its all about the stitches lol

Good luck tonight Jade!

Tune in tonight to see Jade and her fellow finalists take on their most dramatic challenges yet – evening wear. We happen to have heard on the grapevine that they’ll be turning a suit jacket into a little black dress.

And if you’ve caught the sewing bug after watching the series, why not treat yourself and subscribe to Simply Sewing? We’ll send you a free mini sewing machine to get you started! Offer ends 14th July
